Sale barn owners see a difference in SUREHEALTH calves and appreciate that calves are protected from parasites, have proper immunizations and are ready to enter the feedlot, according to Ted Baum, manager of the Elgin Livestock Company. "After running 3,400 head of SUREHEALTH-certified feeder calves through this family owned corporation, it’s apparent that buyers are impressed with the cattle and herd health history. And they are willing to pay a premium for them. Buyers bid agressively because these animals have a tremendous hair coat and show more bloom than untreated calves," Baum says. "Feedyard managers report that once settled into a lot, SUREHEALTH cattle respond to feed quicker, show less sickness, and per-head medical expenses have been extremely low. The certification offers more dimensions in the marketing process and encompasses all the current preconditioning programs. The bottom line is that SUREHEALTH documentation eliminates any questions about a producer's vaccination program."
